Accelar is a leading web 2.0 company that provides portals and booking systems for the travel industry.

They were looking to develop an interactive platform capable of hosting multiple travel sites and portals where different functional modules and widgets could be plugged in and reused, providing a secure booking engine for different types of travel services and an easy to use administration system including content management.

We developed a Web 2.0 based portal platform for Accelar that delivered on all counts. The platform leverages Microsoft.NET and DotNetNuke frameworks providing the following main functionality:

  • Hierarchical site structure with parent portals and child sites in 3 layers. Each parent portal and child sites under that portal have the same basic skin and share user accounts and other data
  • Online travel booking system
  • Tours catalog and e-commerce system with AJAX enabled interface to browse/search tours and buy online. Comprehensive tours management tools and reporting in the admin
  • AJAX enabled point-to-point bus routes interface capable of displaying multiple route combinations and prices including transfers at various stops; E-commerce system to buy tickets; Comprehensive routes management tools and reporting in the admin
  • Instant pricing tool for whole bus charters and the industry’s first automated booking system for bus charters.
  • Easy to use Content Management System for all pages as well as other sections like news, testimonials and profile
  • Interactive trip planning tools
  • Travel data management tools for coaches
  • Configurable Request for Quote system and comprehensive quote preparation and management tools
  • Extensive site analytics to measure traffic, quotes and e-commerce orders

In this phase we do a thorough needs analysis of the client's requirements. We then evaluate and propose technology and implementation options to the client, choosing a solution that suits them best. The solution is then documented as functional specifications and becomes the roadmap to engineer and develop the application. Planning is a critical phase, which involves creating a high-level system architecture; delivery and deployment schedules for software development and integration; information and capacity architecture; testing/ quality assurance; and third-party integration. The project is divided into multiple functional areas such as Business Logic Development, Database Design, Integration and User Interface Design. These are further divided into modules and developed in parallel by team members using our internal Best Practices. Each module is tested using a test plan created by the team member.
At Infoscaler, the life-cycle of every project is mapped to our development process framework, which is a tested and proven methodology for efficient end-to-end delivery. People, Process and Technology are integrated into a model that guarantees successful execution.
We provide continuous support and maintenance services on the systems we have built and setup. Incremental updates and enhancements are made to the system as needed via a change order process. The system/site is deployed on staging servers and made available for beta testing. Production servers are configured and the System is deployed to production servers. The QA team goes through a final round of testing on the production servers and launches the system after client approval. Documentation and training are provided to the internal IT team. The modules are integrated to form a complete system and passed on to Quality Assurance. The QA team integrates test scripts from all test plans and creates additional system-level and integration test scripts. The system is tested thoroughly by the QA team and all bugs are resolved. Application behavior is compared to the initial specifications and any deviations are identified and corrected.
